Pupil Premium
At Wesley we strive to Shine like stars with patience and ensure that everyone's unique needs are looked after. This is supported through the use of pupil premium funding, which is specifically designed to improve the attainment of disadvantaged children and close the gap between them and their peers.
Introduced in 2011, the pupil premium is a sum of money given to schools each year by the Government to. This is based on research showing that children from low income families perform less well at school than their peers. Pupils who are Looked After or Previously Looked After and children who have been eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) qualify for the pupil premium.
Evidence suggests that pupil premium spending is most effective when schools use a tiered approach, targeting spending across 3 areas, with a particular focus on teaching.
- Teaching (e.g training, support and professional development for teachers)
- Targeted academic support (e.g one-to-one/small group tuition and speech and language therapy)
- Wider approaches (e.g breakfast club, counselling to support emotional health and wellbeing, help with the cost of educational trips or visits)
